Mt. Pleasant police warn of scam

MT. PLEASANT - The Mt. Pleasant Police Department is advising residents of a scam in which a person pretending to be a police officer tells the victim that the police have a warrant for their arrest, and that the victim's Social Security Number has been suspended.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department stated that the scammers are even using a phone number suggesting the call is coming from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, when in fact it is not. The Mt. Pleasant Police Department urges anyone who receives such a call not to give out any personal information or buy gift cards. The police department said the scammers are even reciting fake names of police officers and fake badge numbers.
