MT. PLEASANT - The Mt. Pleasant Family Aquatic Center will be opening Friday, June 19 with a couple changes to meet public health guidelines.
The Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging social distancing and will have a capacity of 250 people in the pool to ensure there is enough room for people to continue staying 6 feet apart from one another, even when in the pool.
Should the pool reach capacity, local residents will be asked to wait in line until openings are available, Gary Grunow, Mt. Pleasant Parks and Rec director, explained.
'It's going to be a little different this year,” he said.
Yellow tape on the ground and on diving boards and slide areas will help people know the appropriate space to maintain in order to stay safe while having fun. Locker rooms also will see fewer stalls open to also keep with guidelines.
Additionally, the concession stand will be selling only fountain pop and prepackaged products. Hand sanitizer also will be available at entrances and concession areas.
'The other big change is we're not putting out lounge chairs this year, but people are welcome to bring their own,” Grunow said.
On opening day, the pool will be available for lap swimming from noon to 1 p.m. and then available for open swimming from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Passes and ticket books are available for purchase at the Civic Center Meeting Room.
'We're glad we can open up for the community to use the pool,” Grunow added.
