Mt. Pleasant pursuit leads to 2 arrests

A driver being pursued by police lost control of his car and crashed at the Lockridge turnoff from Highway 34 Thursday afternoon.
At 3:46 p.m. an officer with the Mt. Pleasant Police Department attempted to stop a passenger car at the Best Western Hotel, 810 North Grand Ave. in Mt. Pleasant. According to a police news release, the vehicle took off from the officer and a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle headed west from Mt. Pleasant and eventually lost control on Highway 34 at the Lockridge turnoff.
The release states two suspects — Dylan Dekraai, age 23 of Ottumwa, and Sydney Mallonee, age 25 of Ottumwa — ran from pursuing officers on foot. Both were arrested.
Dylan Dekraai was charged with fraudulent use of registration, driving while barred, eluding, possession of a controlled substance and interference with official acts. Dekraai had warrants out for his arrest.
Sydney Mallonee was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Both were transported to the Henry County Jail.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted in pursuit and arrest by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Fairfield Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
