Mt. Pleasant Spring Cleanup coming next month
Mar. 29, 2022 9:43 am
The city of Mt. Pleasant will hold its annual Spring Cleanup during the week of April 25-28.
Spring Cleanup is a one-week opportunity for residents of Mt. Pleasant to rid their homes of unusual or large items too big to fit into a garbage bag for their regular garbage collection day.
The collection work is done by Wemiga Waste. Spring Cleanup will be picked up on residents’ normal garbage day. The city asks that residents do not lace items curbside until the week before Spring Cleanup.
The city cautions that there are some items that cannot and will not be picked up, including:
• Tires, waste oil, batteries, roof shingles and ashes.
• Liquids, such as anti-freeze, household chemicals and wet paint.
• Construction materials of any kind, such as drywall and wood.
• Televisions and computer monitors.
• Yard waste.
• Appliances.
Leave lids off all paint cans. If the paint is dry, the old cans can be collected. They will not pick up any wet paint.
They also can pick up all types of carpet. The city asks that carpet be tightly rolled and tied in order to be collected.
Attach garbage stickers no earlier than the morning of the pickup date to ensure scavengers don’t take the item.
The pile size is limited to the equivalent of 6 feet wide by 8 feet long by 4 feet tall, excluding a separated metal pile. Residents are required to use a minimum of six stickers for their entire pile.
Anyone with questions should contact Public Works at 319-385-1480, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
