Mt. Pleasant teachers seek $2,000 base salary increase

Mt. Pleasant?s Education Association (MPEA) is asking for a 6.3 percent increase in the teacher base salary.
MPEA submitted its initial 2014-15 master-contract proposal Monday night, prior to the regular meeting of the Mt. Pleasant School Board.

Mt. Pleasant?s Education Association (MPEA) is asking for a 6.3 percent increase in the teacher base salary.
MPEA submitted its initial 2014-15 master-contract proposal Monday night, prior to the regular meeting of the Mt. Pleasant School Board.
Currently, Mt. Pleasant?s teaching base salary is $31,515 and MPEA negotiators are asking for a $2,000 increase in the annual salary to $33,515.
In the only other monetary item, the association is asking that the district continue to pay the full cost for a single, $1,000 deductible health-insurance premium for each employee.
The association is proposing no language changes.
Regarding vacation, the MPEA is proposing the following:
? Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, as a vacation day.
? Winter break will be from Monday, Dec. 22, 2014-Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.
? President?s Day (Monday, Feb. 16, 2015) as a vacation day and would be used as the first make-up day if necessary.
? Friday, April 3-Monday, April 6, 2015, will be spring vacation days. These days would not be used as make-up days.
The school district will make its counterproposal Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Central Office.
