The Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance Government Affairs Committee invites Henry County residents to the a public forum with area lawmakers Saturday, Jan. 25, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Iowa Wesleyan College.
The forum topic, ?Governing cities, counties and schools: What can we learn from one another?? promises to stir plenty of opinions. Rep. Dave Heaton, R-Mt. Pleasant, and Sen. Rich Taylor, D-Mt. Pleasant, are both scheduled to attend.
Joining them in discussion will be Mt. Pleasant Community School District Superintendent Mike Wells, former Henry County Supervisor Kent White, former Mt. Pleasant Mayor John Freeland, and Public Interest Institute President Don Racheter.
Dave Helman, a member of the Mt. Pleasant Area Development Commission Government Affairs Committee, will moderate. A retired Federal Bureau of Prisons executive, Helman is also a former chairman of the Henry County Democrats.
Chamber Alliance Legislative Forums are the fourth Saturday of the month during the legislative session in the International Room of Chadwick Library on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus. The remainder of the 2014 schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Feb. 22 ? Economic strength: Helping Iowa grow through tax reform and infrastructure development;
Saturday, March 22 ? Mental Health Care and Corrections: Protecting all Iowans;
