MT. PLEASANT Three storage units in the Mt. Pleasant area were broken into on Aug. 19 by an unknown suspect.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office received the first call about the burglaries at 5:31 p.m. with the two subsequent calls coming within the hour at 6:02 p.m. and 6:27 p.m. Renters of the storage units contacted the Sheriff's Office about the burglaries upon discovering the break in.
The Sheriff's Office received two calls from one location and another call from a separate location. At this time, there is no information or description of the suspect. According to Henry County Sheriff Richard McNamee, the suspect appeared to have targeted storage units at random.
The suspect was able to gain entry into the storage units and several items were taken from the units, including household appliances. There is currently an on-going investigation on the incident. The Henry County Sheriff's Office is encouraging anyone with information to contact their office and speak with a deputy. Their office can be reached at 319-385-2712.
Arrests
In a separate news release, the Henry County Sheriff's Office reported that two people were arrested after an attempted burglary was reported in the 2000 grid of 170th Street on Aug. 19. At 11:05 p.m., a caller notified the sheriff's office of a possible burglary, and was able to identify the vehicle involved and witnessed it fleeing the area. Deputies responded to the area, and because of the caller's quick and detailed reporting, the vehicle was located and stopped.
The driver, Stephen Potter, 33 of Lockridge, was arrested and charged with attempted burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor and several traffic violations. The passenger, Moranda Ledbetter, 25, of Mt. Pleasant, was also arrested and charged with attempted burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor, and several traffic violations. The Henry County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Winfield Police Department.
It's not yet known whether the burglary attempt reported at 11:05 p.m. is related to the burglaries earlier that evening in Mt. Pleasant.
Defendants are assumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
