Municipal election season begins Monday
Filing for candidates is just around the corner for anyone interested in serving as mayor or on city council.
Filing nomination papers begins Monday. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Sept. 19. Municipal elections are Nov. 5.
Candidate papers are available from city clerks. Each candidate, including incumbents, needs petition signatures of persons eligible to vote from the area the candidate represents.

Filing for candidates is just around the corner for anyone interested in serving as mayor or on city council.
Filing nomination papers begins Monday. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Sept. 19. Municipal elections are Nov. 5.
Candidate papers are available from city clerks. Each candidate, including incumbents, needs petition signatures of persons eligible to vote from the area the candidate represents.
Check with the city clerk about the number of signatures needed; it is a percentage based on population of the area represented.
Fairfield
In Fairfield, the mayor and four city council seats are up for election.
Fairfield City Clerk Joy Messer said the mayor?s seat needs 11 eligible to vote signatures. Two at-large council seats, currently held by Connie Boyer and Jessica Ledger-Kalen, need 10 signatures each.
The council positions of John Revolinski, representing Ward 2, and Michael Halley, representing Ward 4, also need 10 signatures each.
Maharishi Vedic City
In Maharishi Vedic City, the mayor and all five city council seats are up for re-election. A minimum of 10 signatures is needed for each candidate.
The current mayor is Robert Wynne. City council members are Chris Johnson, Maureen Wynne, Rogers Badgett, Tim Fitz-Randolph and Bill Goldstein.
Packwood
Packwood will have two city council seats and the mayor?s position on the ballot this year. Current council members up for re-election are Virgil Chandler and Raymond Chambers. Dave Dickey serves as mayor.
Packwood does not have a city hall building, but holds its meetings in the fire station community room. For filing candidacy papers, the city is designating Dickey Transportation Office, 401 E. Fourth St. in Packwood as the place accepting nomination papers until 5 p.m. on Sept. 19.
Prior to the filing deadline, residents can contact the city clerk at 319-695-3300 to file papers or ask questions.
Libertyville
Libertyville has the mayor?s position and three city council seats up for re-election this year.
The current mayor is Rodney A. Nelson. Current council seats on the ballot are held by Tom Atwood, Carrie Fleig and Randy Melcher.
Each candidate will need to collect 10 signatures of persons eligible to vote.
Lockridge
Lockridge will have the mayor?s position and three city council seats on the November ballot.
Current mayor is Kenny McCarty. The three council seats up for re-election are held by Danny Nelson, Paul Corbin and Richard Richardson.
Batavia
Batavia will have the mayor?s seat and two city council positions open this election.
Randy Major is the current mayor.
Mike Shipler and Dave Speas hold the two council positions that are expiring.
Each candidate needs a minimum of 10 signatures to file.
