Municipal elections to be held Tuesday
Municipal elections will take place throughout Washington County on Tuesday. All polling locations will open at noon and close at 8 p.m. All positions are four-year terms unless stated otherwise below.
The only contested race in the city of Washington is for mayor, and that is between sitting mayor Sandra Johnson and write-in candidate Norm Bruty. Four of the six sitting city council members are up for

Municipal elections will take place throughout Washington County on Tuesday. All polling locations will open at noon and close at 8 p.m. All positions are four-year terms unless stated otherwise below.
The only contested race in the city of Washington is for mayor, and that is between sitting mayor Sandra Johnson and write-in candidate Norm Bruty. Four of the six sitting city council members are up for re-election and they are Russ Zieglowsky of Ward 2, Fred Stark of Ward 4, Merlin Hagie, at large, and Karen Wilson-Johnson, at large. Two of the three park commissioners, Donald Pfeiffer and Fran Stigers, are also up for re-election. Park commissioner terms last six years.
In addition to the slate of candidates to vote for, Washington residents will decide if they want a 7 percent tax on hotel and motel rooms to finance the construction or repair of recreational facilities in the city.
Washington residents who live in Wards 1 and 4 will vote at the courthouse, located at 222 W. Main St. Residents who live in Wards 2 and 3 will vote at the old library at 120 E. Main St.
Riverside Mayor Bill Poch is being contested by Brian McDole and Phillip Richman for the two-year office. There are two seats to fill on the council, and battling for those are incumbents Randy Sexton and Meriellen Bower along with Carolyn Hudson, Gale Hunt, Kevin Kiene, Michael Meinders and Ralph Schnoebelen.
The polling station in Riverside will be at the Riverside City Hall at 60 Greene St.
Ainsworth residents will choose between incumbent Dawn H. Stewart and challenger Donald M. Berns III for the city?s mayor. Three seats on the council are open. Running to fill those seats are incumbents Gerald M. Stewart and Virginia R. Schuerman as well as Mary I. Berns, Robert Gesling and Keith A. Sollazzo.
Ainsworth residents will vote at the Ainsworth Fire Station at 645 Highway 92.
