Municipal elections will be Tuesday
The municipal elections for all the towns in the county are Tuesday. The pools are open from noon until 8 p.m. for all polling places. The municipal elections for all the towns in the county are Tuesday. The pools are open from noon until 8 p.m. for all polling places.
Washington residents will vote on one contested race in the city, and that is for an at-large seat on the city council. Incumbent Karen Wilson-Johnson is competing against challenger Mark Kendall. Bob Shepherd is running unopposed for Ward 1. Larry Bartlett is running unopposed for a six-year term as a park board member. Washington residents of Wards 1 and 4 will vote at the Courthouse. Residents of Wards 2 and 3 will vote at the former library. Washington residents will not vote on the local option sales tax because the council has not set a sunset date on the tax.
Riverside residents will vote for a mayor and three city council candidates, all at-large. Mayor Brian McDole is running against challenger Bill Poch. Councilors Christine Kirkwood and Rodney Waldschmidt are competing with Larry Simon, Tom Sexton, Nate Kasdorf, Bob Schneider and Joette Armbruster for the three seats on the council. Riverside residents will vote at City Hall.
Wellman residents will vote to fill three seats on the city council. The four candidates running for the open seats are Bob Goodrich, Marc Pennington, Johnny D. Schwartz, Steve Slaubaugh. Wellman residents will vote on whether to pass the local option sales tax. If pass, the proceeds from the tax will not go to tax relief but rather entirely to ?any lawful purpose.? Wellman residents will vote at the Parkside Activities Center.
The residents of Wellman will vote on another public measure, this one about the composition of the library board. The public measures asks the residents if the Wellman-Scofield Library Board should remain as a board consisting of six city residents and one non-city resident or change to a board consisting of five city residents and two non-city residents (but still residing in Washington County).
There are no contested races in Kalona. Ken Herrington is running unopposed for a four-year term as mayor. Kalona residents will vote for no more than two candidates for city council, and there are only two on the ballot: Claudine Miller Zahradnek and Greg Schmidt. Kalona residents will vote in the Kalona Community Building.
In Ainsworth, Teresa Hazelett and Troy McCarthy are running for two city council seats. Brad Brown is running to fill a term ending in 2013. Ainsworth residents will vote at the Ainsworth Fire Station.
Crawfordsville residents will see Larry Black and David Neff on their ballots for council. They will vote at the Crawfordsville City Hall.
In Brighton, Bill Farmer, Scott Hughes and Ron Rich are all running for city council. Brighton residents will vote at the Brighton Community Building.
In West Chester, no one is on the ballot for mayor. Five candidates are running to fill five council seats, and they are Judy R. Augustine, Deb Booth, Laurie Johnson, Bryan Tobin and Jennifer Tobin. West Chester residents will vote in the West Chester Heritage Building.
