The murder trial of a St. Louis, Mo. man, charged in connection with the death of a Burlington High School student has been moved from Des Moines County to Henry County on a change of venue.
Jorge "Lumni" Sanders-Galvez, 22, has been charged in the death of Kedarie Johnson, Burlington, in March of 2016. Johnson was 16 at the time.
District Court Judge Mary Ann Brown approved the change of venue in a ruling May 18.
In her ruling, Brown said she granted the change of venue due to pretrial publicity, and also because Johnson had a large circle of friends and acquaintances in the Burlington area.
Curtis Dial of Keokuk, the court-appointed attorney for Sanders-Galvez, had sought the change of venue due to pretrial publicity.
The trial is set to begin Tuesday, July 25, in Henry County District Court.
