Of several calls and emails, Faye Heartsill, of the Lewelling Quaker Museum, was the first to respond. The publication date was April 5, 1969. From left to right: Dr. R. W. Poulter, IWC faculty; Elbert Brown, one of the founders of the Lewelling Quaker Shrine; and Donald Young, President of the Henry County Historical Society. The men are discussing the upcoming tree planting ceremony, when grafted trees ? from the original pear and apple trees taken to Oregon from Iowa in 1847 ? will be planted at the Lewelling House in Salem. Bev Brown Hamm and Mike Brown recognized their grandfather.
