A groundhog, the largest member of the squirrel family, is usually found where wooded areas meet open spaces, like roads, fields and streams. They are not usually found napping atop a car tire on a busy street in town. This little fella woke up when the camera approached, keeping a wary eye but not wanting to leave his resting place. They are not usually found napping atop a car tire on a busy street in town. This little fella woke up when the camera approached, keeping a wary eye but not wanting to leave his resting place. Groundhogs feed voraciously, oftentimes in gardens, quickly decimating a plot as they feed in summer to prepare for winter hibernation.
