Nearly 12,000 Iowans confirmed to have COVID-19

Thirteen additional COVID-19 deaths and 288 additional cases were reported Sunday bringing the death count to 265 and the positive case count to 11,959.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), one of every 41 Iowans had been tested for the virus and one of ever 261 tested positive. Washington County had three additional cases Sunday bringing its total to 159 while Henry and Jefferson County saw no new cases, leaving total at 43 and six respectively.
Saturday, a recorded 5,011 individuals had recovered from COVID-19 in Iowa, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH). However, the state saw 214 more cases and nine deaths bringing the total of infected individuals to 11,671 and the death count to 252.
Locally, Washington County saw one new case bringing its total to 156, three more in Henry County make for 43 and Jefferson County has not seen any new cases in several days, leaving its total at 6. According to the IDPH 41 percent of those infected are adults aged 18-40.
On Friday, Iowa saw 398 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The new cases brought the state total to 11,457.
The state also saw an additional 12 deaths, making for a total of 243.
Locally, Washington County had one new confirmed case, bringing the county total up to 155. Henry and Jefferson counties had no new cases on Friday, leaving those numbers at 42 and six respectively.
Gov. Kim Reynolds did not hold her usual daily news conference as she was scheduled to meet with Vice President Mike Pence during his trip to the Des Moines area. Pence was also expected to meet with U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst as well as with faith, farm and food production leaders in Iowa.
Pence is the head of the White House coronavirus task force and spoke to Iowa faith leaders about how to reopen spiritual services responsibly.
The vice president was also scheduled to stop in West Des Moines at the Hy-Vee headquarters to meet with food supply leaders about securing the country's food supply.
