The Jefferson County Auditor?s Office staff is expecting a large turnout for the special school election Tuesday.
?It?s certainly shaping up to be that way,? said deputy auditor Shannon Pearson. ?There has been a good turn out so far.?
According to Pearson, 727 eligible voters in Jefferson County had requested absentee ballots as of 11 a.m. today, and 31 of the mailed absentee ballots have not yet been returned.
?But they?re are coming in all the time,? she said, adding in-person absentee ballots can be requested at the auditor?s office until 5 p.m. today.
Pearson thought some of the people who had cast absentee ballots might have done so to avoid having to stand in a line Tuesday, but with so many already voting, the lines might not be as long as anticipated.
The Fairfield Community School District has 12,103 registered voters. Of those voters, 935 participated in the most recent school election ? the election of school board members in September.
