WASHINGTON — New restroom facilities in Washington’s central park were expected to open on Wednesday, May 21, months after the previous building was torn down and replaced with new construction.
Washington City Council members said at a meeting Tuesday night that the opening was “needed” after early annual events like the Spring Craft Fair and a few farmers markets relied on rental portable toilets.
While they’re open and “substantially complete” according to the motion passed Tuesday night, municipal officials say work on the bathrooms isn’t entirely finished yet. City Administrator Joe Gaa said the crews had installed temporary fixtures that function, but won’t hold up to long-term use. The city plans to install more durable fixtures when supplies come in.
“There’ll still be a few punch list items,” he said. “But there are fixtures there, and folks are ready for it to open.”
The city expects to approve a final pay app down the road, once those permanent fixtures are installed, according to Gaa.
