Thad Short of Midstates Flooring smoothes an epoxy coating along a seam in the deck at the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center?s indoor pool Tuesday. A dusting of silica sand to create a no-skid surface came next. Today, the deck gets a topcoat, so it will be ready to reopen Monday. The Fairfield Park and Recreation Department budgeted $27,000 for the project. Other improvements under way during the rec center?s closure this week include cleaning and waxing the floors, painting the walls and building a room for spin bikes. Most of the $45,000 worth of new strength and cardio equipment the rec center is installing will be in place when the doors open Monday ? the rest will arrive in late August.
