MT. PLEASANT - Henry County has a new ice cream shop!

On Saturday, By the Scoop opened in Mt. Pleasant, offering 28 flavors of delicious Hershey’s ice cream at a reasonable price. Located on 1301 E. Washington, patrons may enjoy their sweet treats in an indoor dining area, decorated in a beautiful mid-century theme.

Owners Jeff Cleere and Sarah Behunin first came by this ice cream six months ago, on a Mississippi vacation. Tasting it, they realized how much of a hit it would be in Iowa. Seeing as there was little “brand identity” around it, they elected to create their own. The duo scoured the Midwest for Art Deco and mid-century decor, to create a dining area they called, “Grandma’s Kitchen.”

By The Scoop is open Tuesday-Thursday, 3-8 p.m., Friday, 3-10 p.m., and Saturday, noon to 8 p.m.
