New London approves golf carts, UTVs for city streets

NEW LONDON - The New London City Council officially approved the allowance of UTVs (Utlity Terrain Vehicles) and golf carts on public roads.

The council unanimously approved the ordinance 4-0 after discussing the issue for several months. Council member Tom Davis was not present for Tuesday night's meeting.

Drivers must have insurance and working lights on the vehicle in order to operate after dark. Drivers also will be required to register with the city and purchase a sticker for the back of the vehicle to help the city keep track. The decal will change color every year to help city police determine whether or not the vehicle has been registered for the year. The ordinance is in effect immediately.

The next meeting of the New London City Council will be Monday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the community center.
