New London baseball team tops Cardinal

NEW LONDON ? The New London baseball team snapped a modest two-game losing streak on Thursday night, topping Cardinal 8-5 in an SEISC South Division game.
The Tigers used a lot of early offense to pick up the win. New London scored four runs in the second inning, two in the third and one in the fourth to jump out to a 7-0 lead.

NEW LONDON ? The New London baseball team snapped a modest two-game losing streak on Thursday night, topping Cardinal 8-5 in an SEISC South Division game.
The Tigers used a lot of early offense to pick up the win. New London scored four runs in the second inning, two in the third and one in the fourth to jump out to a 7-0 lead.
Cardinal scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Tiger advantage to four runs, at 7-3, but New London got one back in the bottom half to stretch it back to 8-4.
The Comets scored two runs in the top of the seventh to come within three runs, but New London got out of the inning to secure the three-run win.
Tyler Stevenson went 2-3 with a double, three RBIs and two stolen bases to lead New London offensively. He was one of three Tigers who tallied multiple hits.
Justin Henecke went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Cole Helmerson was 2-4 with two runs scored.
Isaac McSorley went 1-3 with a triple, two runs and a stolen base. Blake Nehring was 1-2 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Britt Noel picked up the win on the mound. He started the game and went three shutout innings, giving up just three hits and two walks, while striking out three batters.
McSorley came in to relieve Noel in the fourth inning. He went three innings of his own, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk, while striking out four.
Sam Loyd came in to close the game out in the seventh inning. He gave up two earned runs on two hits and one walk
New London moved to 6-2 on the year. They will travel to Kalona to take on Iowa Mennonite tonight (Monday), at 7 p.m.
