A follow-up on a cyber tip by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department led to the arrest of Joel Corder, 31, New London, on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, officers followed up on a tip Dec. 20 from the National Missing and Exploited Children regarding the dissemination of child pornography.
The tip showed that Corder had downloaded child pornography. He was subsequently interviewed and arrested for three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
A subsequent search warrant for his phone showed numerous images that were found to be child pornography. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
Corder was transported to the Henry County Jail where he was arraigned the following morning. Court records indicate he was released on pre-trial probation.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) organization, and the Ottumwa and New London Police departments.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
