New London set to tackle heavy agenda

NEW LONDON ? The New London City Council will meet in regular session on Tuesday to discuss a plethora of things, including several construction and renovation projects.
The council will be called to order at 6 p.m., following the approval of the agenda and consent agenda, the council members will take up old business. The council is set to discuss renovations at 103 West Washington Street; a property purchased by the city to become the new Community Hall.
In other construction business, the council members are also set to discuss plans to renovate the park shelter house. Council member Greg Malott has been working with Jerry Wilhelm, chairperson of the Utility Trustees. During the meeting, the council members hope to nail down plans, materials and a schedule for the renovation.
Agenda items also include discussing the construction of a sidewalk on South Pine Street from West Adams Street to Dollar General, which is in the construction process. Council members will also continue to discuss paving South Elm and East Cleveland streets as well as pursuing an assisted living facility and/or multi-family units on South Pine Street.
Looking toward new business, the council members will discuss a few changes to city ordinances. One agenda item includes changing the no parking ordinance to prohibit parking on the west side of North Division Street. The council will also look at adopting an ordinance to allow the operation of golf carts on city streets.
Other items include approving a quote from Williams Excavation to install sanitary sewer for the West Adams Street Subdivision, and discuss a proposal from Network Technology for a utility infrastructure facility providing better network connectivity.
Council members will also toss around movie title suggestions for this summer?s movies in the park and are set to approve Steve and Michaela McLain for the July 29 concert in the park and car show.
