New London trustees, council hires temporary city clerk

NEW LONDON ? New London utility trustees and the New London City Council approved the hiring of temporary City Clerk, Dawn Sines. She was hired as a temporary city clerk during a joint meeting. Sines will be filling in for current City Clerk, Kasi Howard, who will be on maternity leave. She is set to begin after Labor Day and work part time for the next five months.

NEW LONDON ? New London utility trustees and the New London City Council approved the hiring of temporary City Clerk, Dawn Sines. She was hired as a temporary city clerk during a joint meeting. Sines will be filling in for current City Clerk, Kasi Howard, who will be on maternity leave. She is set to begin after Labor Day and work part time for the next five months.
At their Tuesday night meeting, city trustees discussed grading the land for a new subdivision layout on S. Pine St. In order for electricity to be laid, the ground must be level. City Engineer Matt Walker said this has not been done in a while but will reach out for quotes and report back at the next meeting. There is an estimated 28,000 yards of dirt to be leveled.
Street paving on Cleveland and Elm streets has been progressing with the storm sewer now back in place. Fencing for the school has been put back up and Four Seasons Construction will start construction on the corner in July.
Council and trustees both approved the purchase of a hydrovac excavator from Trans Iowa Equipment. ?It saves us a lot of time and work,? said Trustee Jerry Wilhelm. The trustees proposed paying for half of the purchase with the council sponsoring the other part.
In other business, the two parties decided to hold a work session on May 15 at 5:15 p.m. in the city office to discuss revisions to the employee handbook.
