FAIRFIELD – The new play structure has been installed at Heritage Park in Fairfield, though the public should wait a week or two before planning to use it.
Fairfield City Engineer and Public Works Director Melanie Carlson informed the city council during its meeting Monday, March 24 that the playground had been installed earlier that month, but that workers were still adding pieces to it.
Fairfield Park and Recreation Director Calvin Todd informed The Union Tuesday that the workers should finish installing the missing pieces that day, but the playground would not officially open to the public until the city has a chance to add mulch around it. He estimated it would open by the end of this week or next.
As of Tuesday night, an orange safety fence still surrounded the play structure, located just south of the LISCO pickleball courts within the park. The city spent just over $130,000 on the play structure, the majority of which is coming from the city’s Local Option Sales Tax fund.
