Mt. Pleasant residents will soon be able to drop-off recyclables again.
Area Recyclers, which is operated by the Des Moines County Regional Solid Waste Commission, announced last week that a new manned recycling drop-off location in Mt. Pleasant will open June 16.
The new drop off location will be at 1000 W. Washington St. and will operate from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. No materials will be accepted outside of operating hours.
Mt. Pleasant City Administrator Brent Schleisman said Monday that he had not received word from Area Recyclers regarding further details regarding the setup of the new drop-off location.
The new drop-off location will accept corrugated cardboard; No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 plastic containers no larger than a laundry soap jug; paper, including magazines, copy paper, catalogs and newspaper; tin and aluminum cans; and glass.
The city has been without a drop-off recycling location since Republic Services of Iowa ceased operations at the end of May.
City residents have biweekly curbside recycling pickup available.
Curbside recycling pickup for residents north of Washington Street is on Tuesdays and on Thursdays for those who live south of Washington Street.
Residents are required to have at least one green Area Recyclers bin for curbside collection. Those bins are available for purchase at Mt. Pleasant City Hall.
