New store, Perfectly Vintage, opens in Mt. Pleasant

The square in Mt. Pleasant just got a little more busy as a new shop, Perfectly Vintage, has opened up.

Owner Lisa Kalkbrenner said the idea to start her own business stemmed from her lifelong love of antiques. She began procuring them and eventually sold them in a booth at Brown Bear's Basket Antiques in Mt. Pleasant.

After being laid off from her job a few years ago, she began to think about what she could do for her next career move. She spoke with her husband, who encouraged her to consider opening her own store. She tried another job offer first, it was not what she wanted and instead decided to take his advice and open her own.

'Basically I just started gathering things,” she said of getting ready to open her own. 'It was a lot of hard work but it's kind of like a bigger booth except I have to make all the decisions and be here all the time.”

The decision to move to the square was a pretty simple one, she said. After observing a few 'for rent” signs in the area, she called the numbers and began speaking with people about possible locations. However, after seeing the one she eventually decided on, she knew the location would be perfect for her business.

Getting everything ready took about three months, with the hardest part being finding time for her husband to help her with 'handyman” type work. Once that was complete, she began filling the shop little by little in preparation for opening day, Thursday, Aug. 1.

Seeing a large crowd form for the big day was a bit overwhelming, she said, but was thankful for the support and turnout from the community.

'I wasn't nervous until I got people in here,” she said with a laugh.

The shop is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and on Sundays from 12-4 p.m. and located at 105 W. Monroe Street.
