Judy Bar-Shimon, incoming Fairfield Public Library director, has named Jenny Davy as Fairfield's next youth services librarian.
Davy is originally from Auckland, New Zealand. She came to Fairfield in 1999 to attend Maharishi University of Management and graduated in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
"I think she's going to be a real asset," said Bar-Shimon. "I was looking for someone who would be a real advocate for children in the community of all ages, and I think Jenny will be just that."
Bar-Shimon said Davy came highly recommended by the teachers at Lincoln Elementary School, where she did her student teaching.
Davy now works at the M.U.M. preschool. Her first day as youth services librarian will be Jan. 31.
Bar-Shimon, who is currently the youth services librarian but will take over the top job at the library from Jim Rubis when he retires at the end of January, said she wanted her replacement to be someone who could make children feel welcome at the library.
She said children will find Davy "approachable," and added that "she's very vivacious, enthusiastic, very excited about beginning the job here."
The library received eight applications for the youth services librarian position.
