NL/W-MU wrestlers split double-dual at home
NEW LONDON ? The New London/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling team defeated Wapello, 42-33, and fell to Class 2A No. 3 Mediapolis, 69-9, in the double-dual the Tigers hosted on Thursday night.
In the dual against Wapello, the Tigers lost the first match by fall when Ruger NcNeil pinned Drake Christe, and they lost second by forfeit, giving Wapello an early lead.

NEW LONDON ? The New London/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling team defeated Wapello, 42-33, and fell to Class 2A No. 3 Mediapolis, 69-9, in the double-dual the Tigers hosted on Thursday night.
In the dual against Wapello, the Tigers lost the first match by fall when Ruger NcNeil pinned Drake Christe, and they lost second by forfeit, giving Wapello an early lead.
Tyler Schneider (138) gave NL/W-MU its first win of the contest when he pinned Brady Wilkerson in 2:52.
Brody Burns (145) then won by fall over Joel Osornio in 57 seconds, and Jairin Swailes (152) got a win by forfeit to give the Tigers an 18-12 advantage in the dual.
Wapello?s Nathan Boyer pinned Tanner Schneider (160) to tie the score, but Austin Hora took the lead back for the Tigers when he won the 170-pound match by forfeit.
Tanner Gipple (182) stretched the NL/W-MU lead when he pinned Wapello?s Dakota Lincoln in 1:05.
The Tigers had to forfeit the 195-pound match, and Ryley Howell won by decision over the Tigers? Kyle Davis (220), but Wapello never regained the lead.
Avery Jacobs (285) pinned Wapello?s Cody Robbins in 1:21, and Johnathon Quinn took a win by forfeit for the Tigers in the 106-pound match. Both teams had to forfeit at 113 pounds.
Against powerhouse Mediapolis, the Tigers didn?t fare as well.
The NL/W-MU wrestlers who picked up victories against the Bulldogs were Davis, who won a 3-1 decision over Ethan Lamm with a takedown in the sudden-victory overtime period, and Jacobs, who pinned Mike Rubey in 1:40.
The Tigers now have a 2-5 dual record on the season and they will wrestle next at the North Cedar Invitational in Clarence, which starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
