No more late fines at Mt. Pleasant library
Apr. 18, 2021 3:10 pm
The Mt. Pleasant Public Library has eliminated overdue fees for all library patrons. This went into effect last Wednesday.
The library board approved eliminating overdue fees in order to ensure that the library is living up to its commitment to provide free and equal access to information, knowledge, independent learning and the joys of reading for the community.
The Mt. Pleasant Public Library was inspired by the many other libraries that have gone fine-free before them. The elimination of overdue fees in libraries has several objectives:
- Increased patron access to materials and services
- Reduction of the inequitable impact of overdue fines
- Improved patron relationships with their library
- Optimization of library staff time and increased staff efficiency
The Mt. Pleasant Public Library will clear all outstanding overdue fines from patron records. From now on, any item checked out that are eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed for patrons.
The library encourages patrons to return books in a responsible and timely fashion to the library so others may enjoy the shared resources. Patrons will still be held responsible for fees associated with the replacement of lost or damaged books and other materials they check out.
For more information, contact the library at 319-385-1490.
