A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 14, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, after which the family will receive friends until 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 15, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Rev. Norman L. ?Norm? Walter, 77 of Winfield, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at his home.
A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 14, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, after which the family will receive friends until 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 15, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Rev. Memorials have been established to HCI Care Services and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in his memory. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Walter was born on Feb. 14, 1939, in Fordyce, Neb., the son of Leonard and Veronica Hochstein Walter. He was a 1957 graduate of Wynot High School in Wynot, Neb. After high school, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. Following his two-year enlistment, he attended Milford Trade School in Milford, Neb. On Sept. 7, 1963, he married Janice Hochstein at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bow Valley, Neb.
Always a builder, Walter started his own construction business and lived in Coleridge, Neb., for nine years. For the next several years, he moved his family many places as he built nursing homes for communities. In 1974, they moved to Winfield, where he resided until his death. For the last twenty years of his career, Walter worked for Merit Construction, retiring in 2000.
Walter was a master woodworker and craftsman. A member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Walter is survived by his wife, Janice; two sons, Brian Walter, of Winfield; and Dean (Sharla Winter) of Winfield; two daughters, Kim (Thomas) Lampe, of Red Wing, Minn.; and Michelle (Brian) WalterBlodgett, of Washington; two brothers, Arlan Walter, of Hartington, Neb.; and Kenneth Walter, of Ringold, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson.
