North Carolina man now charged with kidnapping Fairfield teen

FAIRFIELD – A North Carolina man who was arrested last week after transporting a Fairfield teenager across state lines has now been charged with kidnapping.
The Fairfield Police Department stated in a news release on Aug. 21 that it was charging John Michael Johnson, 25, of Reidsville, North Carolina, with first degree kidnapping (Class A felony_. Johnson was arrested in Reidsville by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 17, when he was charged with Felony Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, and Felony Solicitation by Computer.
Johnson is accusing of transporting a 15-year-old girl from Fairfield to Reidsville on the night of Saturday, Aug. 16. Fairfield police issued a missing person alert for the girl on Aug. 17, and after reviewing phone records and speaking to eyewitnesses, they identified Johnson as a person of interest. Fairfield police then contacted the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an address in Reidsville, where authorities discovered both Johnson and the missing girl.
According to the Fairfield Police Department’s news release on Aug. 21, Johnson will remain in the custody of Rockingham County authorities until arrangements are made to transport him to Jefferson County for his court appearance.
