RIVERSIDE ? A North Liberty man was arrested early Thursday just over the Washington County line in Riverside after leading Johnson County Sheriff?s deputies on a high-speed chase with speeds reaching up to 140 mph.
Ryan David Foust, 26, of North Liberty remained in the Johnson County Jail this morning on $15,000 bond. He is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, eluding, obstruction of a 911 call and assault causing bodily injury.
According to the complaint from the Johnson County Sheriff?s Office, Foust was driving a gray 2004 BMW without a license plate at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday traveling southbound on Riverside Drive at the fairgrounds in Iowa City. Officers radared the vehicle going 87 mph in the 45 mph zone.
Johnson County deputies attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle kept going toward the Highway 218 ramp at a high rate of speed.
?The vehicle continued south traveling at speeds of 140 miles per hour weaving in and out of what traffic there was,? the report read.
During the initial phases of the pursuit, Johnson County dispatch received a 911 call from someone identified as ?Bobby? who said he was a passenger in the vehicle. During a discussion with dispatch, Bobby said he didn?t know who the driver was. He said that they were traveling from Iowa City to the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort. He stated the driver had been drinking. Bobby confirmed squad cars were behind the vehicle.
?Just stop and let me out of this car,? Bobby was heard saying several times on a tape of the 911 call provided by Johnson County Sheriff?s Department.
?I?m not letting you out,? was the response heard from off the phone line.
The report said that at one point while traveling at a high rate of speed, Foust had punched the passenger with a closed fist, causing pain and a possible broken nose.
The pursuit ended at milepost 75 in Washington County.
The report said Foust had submitted to a field sobriety test and the test indicated his blood alcohol concentration was .122. Legally intoxicated is .08.
