Unlike the school election ballot earlier this month, November?s municipal elections feature contested races in nearly every Henry County town.
In Mt. Pleasant, Mayor Steven K. Brimhall, Ward II Councilwoman Debra J. Savage and councilman-at-large Terry McWilliams are all unopposed.
However, two newcomers ? Alan D. Huisinga and Brant Knudsen ? have submitted nomination papers for the Ward IV seat being vacated by Stan Curtis.
Nomination papers had to be submitted to the city clerk by 5 p.m. Sept. 19 who in turn had to turn the papers into the county auditor?s office Sept. 20 by 5 p.m. for placement on this year?s ballot. The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Former Mt. Pleasant Community School Distrit Superintendent of Schools Dr. John A. Roederer will be entering municipal government. Roederer is the only candidate for mayor of Westwood.
Another interesting race is in Salem where Mayor Linda Ward is being challenged by her predecessor, Dan Patterson. Patterson did not seek re-election when his term ended Dec. 31, 2011.
