Henry County Conservation is seeking weekend volunteers for the Oakland Mills Nature Center.
With the camping season starting in a little over a month, Conservation Director Caleb Waters is hoping the Nature Center will have enough staff and volunteers to be open to the public during the busy season.
'Our department and Conservation Board depends on volunteers to ensure that our nature center is open to the public,” Waters said. 'My staff and I can open it up during the workweek, but most of the time, families come out on the weekend or after hours.”
'If we don't have willing volunteers to keep it open on the weekends, the nature center gets restricted to ‘by appointment only,' which doesn't include nights or weekends,” he said.
Waters hopes to have volunteers to help staff the Nature Center from April 15 to Oct. 15, which is the tentative camping season depending on weather conditions.
'The only requirement for becoming a volunteer is filling out an application, and then I'll do a background check” he said. 'Other than that, it's a pretty simple process.”
