WASHINGTON — The old communications tower on the site of the former Washington County Jail was disassembled and removed on Wednesday morning.
A work crew with a crane arrived at the now cleared site adjacent to the Washington County Courthouse early Wednesday.
A worker scaled the tower and disassemble the connections of the upper portion of the tower in order for the crane to lift the upper piece off the tower and lay it down on the ground.
Then, workers removed connections from the base that held the tower to the ground, before the crane lifted the base off the ground and laid it next to the upper portion.
Demolition of the old jail and communications center began in early April.
County decision-makers have not yet publicly discussed plans for the lot’s future.
