1) Why are you running for office?
I am running for office because I care about the future of southeast Iowa. I want my grandchildren to have the same opportunities I have had growing up and living here my whole life. I love Iowa and I want to make
sure that we all can have a good education, have access to good health care, have the ability to have a good job with good benefits and live in a state with clean air and clean water.
What are your priorities if elected?
2) I am a product of public education. I rode a school bus from the first day of kindergarten until the last day I graduated from high school. I then attended and graduated from a public, land grant university here in Iowa. In Des Moines, I'll make sure our rural schools are given the funding they need so they can provide our children a high quality education like I received growing up. I would also fight to lower the
cost of prescription drugs and protect those with pre-existing conditions while providing balanced, responsible leadership for HD82 to get us through the Covid-19 pandemic.
3) Do you think the state government has responded well to the COVID-19 pandemic, and if not, how should it have responded differently?
The challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic is unlike any since the Great Influenza of 1918-19. We get through these national emergencies with confidence in our ability to work together to solve big problems. We did
this during the Great Depression and World War ll. All we need is strong leadership and the truth.
When I talk to voters there is confusion. That's why it's so vital we elect candidates who will take the pandemic seriously and bring people together to fight the virus, rather than each other.
4) What can the state Legislature do in 2021 about stopping the spread of the pandemic while also being mindful of the effects on the economy?
In 2021, we need to be doing all we can to ensure our local communities are receiving the assistance they need to help them through the COVID-19 pandemic. That means making sure our medical professionals have all the support and PPE they require, ensuring each county public health department has the ability to contact trace, and offering a helping hand to our small businesses as they adjust to the changing conditions of the pandemic. Not to mention providing teachers and local school districts with all the resources they need to keep our children safe and maintain a productive, learning environment.
