Occupation: Henry County Auditor
Why are you running for office?
To better serve the people of Henry County in the best way that I possibly can and make their lives easier by assisting them in anyway that I am able.
What are your priorities if elected?
To continue to administer the duties of the County Auditor set by the State of Iowa for the benefit of all Henry County residents.
Can you explain what your office does?
Secretary and budget director for the Board of Supervisors; commissioner of all elections held in Henry County – city, school, primary, general and any special elections, all annual cash and GAAP reports for the state, Preparation of taxable valuations and property taxes, maintaining all real estate ownership and maps, paying of all county expenses, payroll and human resources for all county employees, custodian of the courthouse.
Why is it important?
It is all required by law and the county would not have income to offer all the services we do to the residents of the county.
What makes a good county auditor?
To work well with the public to understand their views on things and help them understand the laws of the state of Iowa, also to be able to accept and deal with change.
What experience do you have in this field that makes you a good candidate?
I was Deputy Auditor in this office for 28 years then became the auditor for the last nine years. Over those 37 years I have seen much change and dealt with about every situation that could possibly arise in this office.
