On the run for COVID-19

Two brothers running across the country to raise money for COVID relief passed through Washington Tuesday.
Zac and Max Prizant, 24-year-old twins from Youngstown, Ohio, are hoping to raise $30,000 for Heart to Heart International, a humanitarian organization based near Kansas City.
'My brother and I are running across the country from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City,” Zac said while walking along Highway 92 east of Washington. 'We started back on May 21, which feels like forever ago.”
They had hoped to complete their journey in 100 days, but they have had plenty of setbacks along they way.
'Right about halfway, in York, Neb., the car and the camper caught fire,” Zac said. 'We lost everything we had. A lot of our friends presumed we'd give up, but we never give up.”
Zac flew home to Youngstown to pick up their mother's car and drive it back to Nebraska.
Meanwhile, Max stayed in Nebraska and found another camper on Facebook Marketplace.
'The guy we bought it from dropped it off in the wrong parking lot, and it got towed,” Max said.
In Nevada, they were charged by a herd of wild horses.
The brothers were able to scatter them by throwing dry 'cow pies” at the horses.
'That was definitely a low point of the trip,” Zac said.
Each day, they drive their camper to the location where they plan to end the day, then drive a car back to where they finished the previous day so they can resume their on-foot journey.
'We'll park the car, then run up to the camper, then go back and get the car the next day,” Max said.
In Iowa, they have been mainly following Highway 92, and came to Washington from Oskaloosa and Sigourney.
In Washington, they stopped for lunch at the Frontier Family Restaurant and did a little shopping.
'We just ate lunch in your town, and it was really good,” Zac said. 'We also went into Earthly Blessings and bought some Christmas decorations.”
East of Washington, they crossed the 2,000-mile mark of their trek.
They do regular updates from the road on their Instagram accounts: @mpzant or @zacinthebox.
They also set up a donation page on Facebook called 'Max & Zac Run Across America for Covid Relief.”
