One officer injured after assault at MP Correctional Facility

An official investigation has been opened after an assault took place at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility Monday evening.

An official investigation has been opened after an assault took place at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility Monday evening.
On Monday, July 18, at roughly 5 p.m., offender Randolph Ross, 45, of Waterloo, was charged with assaulting an officer in Living Unit 1A of the Mt. Pleasant facility. The assault resulted in the officer suffering multiple punches to the facial area.
The officer injured in the assault was treated onsite immediately, but was eventually transported to Henry County Health Center, in Mt. Pleasant, where they received additional medical treatment and stitches for facial lacerations.
According to officials, Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility staff activated an emergency alarm immediately after the assault began. A report from the Iowa Department of Corrections stated they consider the July 18 incident a ?very serious assault.?
Ross is currently serving a 25-year sentence for Robbery 1st degree. He has been in the department of corrections since 2001.
Following investigation, this incident will be referred to the Henry County Attorney?s Office for prosecution.
Due to the pending status of this investigation, the assaulted officer?s name is not available for public release at this time.
