CRAWFORDSVILLE ? A potentially dangerous situation was averted by the expertise of a WACO Community School District bus driver Friday morning, according to Pat Coen, WACO superintendent of schools.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Feb. 24 (WACO had a late start that morning), bus driver Chris Alvine was finishing her morning bus route when mud pulled the bus into a ditch near 3145 310th Street, which is within blocks of the Crawfordsville Elementary School.
The bus was carrying 42 elementary school students, Coen said. There was only one minor injury reported. ?A little girl complained that her ankle hurt,? Coen said.
School and law enforcement personnel were on hand to help the children exit the bus and another bus was brought to take the children to the elementary school.
?The bus driver could feel the mud pulling the vehicle into the ditch and did a wonderful job of slowing down and keeping the bus upright. She knew the mud had her,? Coen said.
