The Roosevelt Community Recreation Center will have an open house, with free use of its equipment and free classes, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
?We want to give the public a chance to try it out and see what we have to offer,? Park and rec director Derik Wulfekuhle said. It?s the perfect opportunity for anyone who has been pondering a membership to check out the offerings for free, he added.
During the open house, the rec center will offer yearlong memberships at a 15 percent discount. Anyone riding a bike to the event qualifies for an additional 10 percent discount. Plus, the rec center?s personal fitness instructor gives two free personal training sessions with each new membership.
Wulfekuhle also noted memberships no longer must be paid in full. The rec center now offers payment plans, he said.
Wulfekuhle hopes the event will attract new members, especially youth, seniors and women. He said the rec center has tried to be more accommodating to the different demographics with its recent improvements, such as new cardio and fitness equipment, including bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, upper and lower body machines and kettle bells.
The open house also is an opportunity for the public to check out the more customer friendly reception area. Guests can learn about the indoor pool?s new system to remove the chloramines that leave behind chlorine residue and the ultraviolet system that destroys chloramines in the hot tub.
The walleyball and racquetball courts will be open, and the rec center will offer free body assessments.
Free classes, such as Zumba, indoor cycling and Pilates, are scheduled throughout the day. A full listing of the free class schedule for Saturday is available at the rec center.
