FAIRFIELD – David Keith Randall was a giving man during his life, and his gifts have continued after his passing.
Randall is best known to Fairfield residents for running a music store on the east side of the square for many years until his death in 2017. At the time of his death, his partner Ki Wagler did not know he was an organ donor. In the months and years since then, Wagler discovered just how important Randall’s organ donations were.
Wagler has received multiple letters from organizations thanking her and noting that Randall’s donations have been used to help a large number of people. Wagler hopes that others will be inspired by his example and choose to be organ donors as well.
In 2019, the Iowa Donor Network wrote to tell Wagler that 549 grafts had been created for transplant from Randall’s gift of bone and connective tissue, including to enhance the body’s healing process after orthopedic, spinal and dental surgery. Ten grafts were created for transplant from Randall’s gift of skin tissue, which she was informed were used for breast reconstruction post-mastectomy.
“David’s donation has enhanced the lives of those who received his gifts,” read the letter from the Iowa Donor Network. “It is our hope the recipients will experience an improved and more active quality of life.”
In August of 2017, the Iowa Lions Eye Bank wrote to thank Wagler for Randall’s gift of his corneas.
“I know this is a time of great sadness for you and all who knew and loved David and hope you may be consoled with the knowledge that someone with seriously impaired vision has received a cornea transplant as a result of this gift,” read the letter.
