Ottumwa man strikes MP teen?s SUV on U.S. 34
A Mt. Pleasant teenager was driving a 2002 Dodge Durango Monday afternoon eastbound on U.S. Highway 34 when he slowed down and a vehicle struck him from behind, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.
Matthew Lewis Huston, 18, of Mt. Pleasant was operating the Dodge SUV when he slowed the vehicle down in the right lane of the highway in order to turn right onto Henry-Des Moines Avenue.

A Mt. Pleasant teenager was driving a 2002 Dodge Durango Monday afternoon eastbound on U.S. Highway 34 when he slowed down and a vehicle struck him from behind, according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol.
Matthew Lewis Huston, 18, of Mt. Pleasant was operating the Dodge SUV when he slowed the vehicle down in the right lane of the highway in order to turn right onto Henry-Des Moines Avenue.
Gregory Scott Songer, 59, of Ottumwa collided with the Huston vehicle. Songer was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Lumina at the time of the accident.
The impact caused the Durango to come to rest in the southeast ditch. Songer?s car came to rest on the south shoulder of the higihway, just west of the intersection of Highway 34 and Henry-Des Moines Avenue.
Two persons in the Durango may have sustained injuries, according to the report, including a nine-year-old female who had a seat belt on.
Julie Adams, 37, the other passenger of the Durango, was transported by ambulance to the Henry County Health Center.
Damage to the Durango was estimated at $500. Damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $2,000.
Songer was cited for failure to prove security against liability (accident) and failure to maintain control.
