The Carnegie Historical Museum has announced the Century Farm of the month for July 2024. The farm is owned by Rosemary Pacha.
This farm has been in the family for 147 years. The Pacha farm is located in Penn Township. The family first purchased 140 acres of farm land in 1877 at $75 per acre.
The Pacha Farm is a Century Farm. The Pacha family story begins when the Grandfather Frank Pacha and Great Uncle Jacob Pacha purchased 140 acres on October 10, 1877. Next in line was their Father Albert Pacha. Gerald and Rosemary took over the ownership of the farm and the present owner is their son.
This is the twenty-seventh month that the Carnegie Historical Museum has been highlighting the farms in Jefferson County which have been recognized by the Iowa Farm Bureau as being in the same family for at least 100 in the case of Century Farms or 150 years for Heritage Farms. It is our plan to carry this forward into 2025, and recognize those farms which have received this Heritage or Century Farm status at the state level.
The Fairfield First Friday on July 5, 2024 beginning at 6 p.m. will allow interested patrons of the Museum to come and view the new display of the Pacha farm. A video-taping with family members will begin at 6 p.m. A dedicated display case will be available for viewing on the third floor of the museum for the month of July. The public is welcome to attend and meet the family at that time. Please take time to come and learn about the history of these farms and what they mean to Jefferson County, Iowa.
