FAIRFIELD ? The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams both saw their seasons come to an end in Fairfield over the weekend.
The Panther girls were taken down in individual tournament play on Thursday and the boys were knocked out, 5-1, by Fairfield Maharishi in their substate match on Saturday.
In the girls? tournament, Erin Zihlman and Sheyanne Walter competed in the singles portion of the meet.
Walter won her first round match, 6-2 and 6-0, but fell in the quarterfinals, 6-0 and 6-0. Zihlman dropped her first round match 6-1 and 7-5.
Meagan Sutherland and Kylie Sourwine won their first match, 6-1 and 6-0 over a Davis County duo in the doubles portion of the day, but then fell to the top Keokuk team 6-0 and 6-3.
Thuan Tran and Quin Whaley also fell to a Keokuk team in the doubles tournament. They fell in a tight one, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the first round.
The boys took on a stacked Maharishi team on Saturday. The game only went through the six singles matches before Maharishi had the five wins necessary to move on.
The lone winner was Corbin Broeker, who played in the No. 5 match and picked up a victory, 6-3 and 6-2.
Ben Zihlman fell, 6-1 and 6-1 in the No. 1 match. Ethan Weber lost 6-4 and 6-0 in the No. 2 match. Joey Holtkamp dropped the No. 3 match 6-0 and 6-1.
Elijah Plooster fell, 6-2 and 6-3 in the No. 4 match. Nick Sandeen took the first set in the No. 6 match but lost the next two for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 loss.
The two days marked the last high school meet for five Panther seniors. Sourwine, Tran and Walter all played their last match on the girls? side and Sandeen and 2016 state qualifier B. Zihlman finished up their high school careers.
