FAIRFIELD - Even with the thermometer reaching near triple digits, a huge crowd turned out Tuesday evening to witness the Greater Jefferson County Fair Parade, the ceremonial start to a week of fun activities at the fair.
Children had a field day collecting candy thrown from passing vehicles. One of the most sought after items on this hot day were the popsicles that various groups handed out. After the parade, residents stuck around Central Park to witness the Flag Day ceremony put on by the Fairfield Elks with help from the Scouts.
The Elks have an essay contest for children where they write about “What the Flag Means to Me,” and this year’s winner was Sarayu Tejada, who read her essay during Tuesday’s ceremony.
After the Flag Day ceremony, residents were treated to another round of entertainment in the form of the Fairfield Municipal Band, which held its first concert of the summer season.
