Park and ride in Van Buren closing

The park and ride lot at the intersection of Iowa Highway 1 and Iowa Highway 16 in Van Buren County will permanently close Tuesday, Dec. 1, due to the inability to continue to accommodate a functional park and ride lot, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's District 5 Office.

The park and ride lot is located about 12.6 miles south of U.S. 34 (near Fairfield), 10.5 miles north of Iowa 2 and about 21 miles west of U.S. 218.

Once closed, all park and ride signs will be removed and continued use of the state right of way as a park and ride will no longer be permitted.

The site will continue to provide access to Meadow Avenue (a Van Buren County Level B service maintenance road) and entrance to a private field.
