Pekin hires interim school superintendent
PACKWOOD ? Pekin School District Board of Directors hired an interim superintendent for the 2012-13 school year.
Fredrick Whipple, formerly school superintendent at Mediapolis, and retired for the past two years, was approved at Thursday?s school board meeting. He has begun working in the district.
Pekin?s previous superintendent John Dotson left the district at the end of June for a similar job in Minnesota.
The school board, under the advice of Ray and Associates, hired to help search for a superintendent, will wait until January or February to search for a permanent superintendent. Dotson?s resignation turned in June 11, left a short time to get personnel interviewed and hired for the school year.

Seal coating under way on Fairfield streets
For Fairfield residents tired of the dusty conditions on chip seal streets in the city, director of public works Darrel Bisgard has a message: please be patient.
The public works department recently finished prepping chip seal streets for new seal coating. Because the process includes adding new gravel, conditions can become dusty during and after the prep process, Bisgard said. This ? prompted several complaints from residents.
New seal coat began going down this week and the process should be completed fairly quickly, Bisgard said.
?Be patient. Another week should make all the difference,? he said.
