Pekin schools off Tuesday for funeral of elementary associate

Pekin schools will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd so staff may attend the funeral of colleague, Dixie Chapman. The Pekin Child Care Center will also be closed.

“We apologize for any inconvenience to families,” said a news release from the school, “but understand the circumstances that make this necessary.”

On Thursday, Nov. 18, Pekin’s Facebook page announced the passing of Chapman, an elementary associate, who died the day before.

“All students and staff supported each other, along with the help of mental health providers and school counselors today,” the post read. “We want parents to know that the additional support will be available in the upcoming days. Please contact your child's principal, school counselor, or teacher if you feel the need.”

Open visitation will be held at Grace Family Church in Ollie on Monday, Nov. 22 from 1-4 p.m., with the family present from 4-7 p.m. The funeral will also be held at Grace Family on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
