A downtown investment grant (DIG) of $29,000 was approved for the rehabilitation of the former Main Street Donut building which will soon become Peoples Capital Management.
At the Washington City Council meeting Tuesday night, Main Street Executive Director Sarah Grunewaldt explained the building, located at 120 E. Madison Street, was purchased in the summer of 2018 but Main Street did not have the funds to provide a DIG. The project was held off until the $29,000 of DIG dollars could be used to fund the $117,000 project.
'They are ready to put shovels into dirt any day now,” she said. 'They are really excited about the project and I am really happy with it. My committee is two-thumbs up.”
Currently, Peoples Capital Management is located at 209 W. Main St. in Washington, next door to JP's 207. Grunewaldt said the businesses owners are ready to move on construction and expect to have the remodel completed by fall 2019.
